Hollister Creative won a gold award in the 20th annual National Mature Media Awards competition for an article in Milestones. The title of the award-winning article was “Inspired by grandma, architect runs writing class for seniors.” The author, Constance Garcia-Barrio, wrote the featured piece about Hong Kong-born Benita Cooper, the founder/director of Project Best Day, a writing workshop at Philadelphia Senior Center.
The newsletter, Milestones, is read by more than 180,000 mature Philadelphians. One of the publication’s features is a section called “News and Possibilities for Seniors,” written by seniors under the direction of Hollister Creative editor Don Harrison. Harrison is a 60-year veteran of Philadelphia newspapers and brings a wealth of editorial experience plus a much appreciated mature perspective. Hollister produces the newsletter on behalf of the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA). Hollister Creative also provides art direction, photography and graphic design services for Milestones. The Philadelphia Corporation for Aging has been a client of Hollister Creative since 2001.
The Gold Award is the top honor given in the category for Single Article – Magazine/Newspaper/Newsletter. Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit awards in 32 categories were chosen from nearly 1,000 entries in the contest. The contest is the largest of its kind and recognizes the best materials produced for those who are 50 and older.
Hollister Creative has won National Mature Media Awards for Milestones every year since 2003. The competition is presented by the Illinois-based Mature Market Resource Center, a national clearinghouse for the senior market. Hollister Creative also designed the e-publication Milestones E-News, which the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging publishes weekly for adults who are 50-plus or caring for an older person, as well as the PCA website, www.pcacares.org.
